A strong point of this new psychotherapeutic branch is the role of horse as co-therapist in child therapy. The obvious results of the horse-child relationship refer to socialization, communication, development of self-esteem, affective abilities. For these reasons, horse-assisted therapy has proven to be especially effective in improving the difficulties faced by children with mental health problems, such as autism, asperger’s, ADHD, down syndrome, anxiety, depression, etc. The Article describes the benefits of hippotherapy for children with autism.
